Junior League of Tucson- Purple Sage Cookbooks

Founded in 1929, the Junior League of Tucson is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

It is a group of women, 21 and older, interested in making Tucson a better place to live and learning to be effective community leaders. JLT is one of 292 Leagues across the country and around the world. They have high-powered professionals and stay-at-home moms…women just out of college and women with kids in college. They come from a variety of social and economic backgrounds and  have a wide range of personal values and political opinions. One thing they all share is a common commitment to community and a desire to make a mark on Tucson by being effective leaders and volunteers.

In the last 76 years in Tucson, the JLT has invested more than $1,300,000 in community improvement and public awareness efforts such as the first Ronald McDonald House in Tucson.  They also have current projects such as the JLT CARES program that  supports the community’s growing at-risk senior population who are aging-in-place in substandard housing conditions. JLT provides direct support in terms of the volunteers, resources and materials necessary to provide critical home rehabilitation improvements. By making these home improvements, JLT enables seniors to live and maintain an independent lifestyle that maximizes the quality of life, improves safety and reduces costs.

The league sells cookbooks in order to fund the projects that they are involved in.  These cookbooks are recipes that were compiled by past league members.  The book was originally published in 1984 and has over 300 recipes inside.

As a member of the league I invite you to purchase a cookbook to support our charitable projects.  You will not be disappointed as you will be helping the community and will be able to experience diverse cultures through these delicious recipes.
